Switching on online ordering is quick. Being ready for it takes longer. A bad first week makes guests wary, so it is worth preparing.
Your menu
- Check every price and description.
- Add clear names for sizes or options.
- Add photos for the dishes you want to sell most.
- Remove dishes that do not travel well or that you cannot make reliably.
Your kitchen
- Decide how many extra orders you can handle at peak time.
- Work out realistic preparation times and promise slightly more time than you need.
- Decide who is responsible for each order, from receiving to handover.
Pickup, packaging and delivery
- Choose where and how guests collect orders.
- Test your packaging with hot, cold and messy dishes.
- If you offer delivery, decide how you will deliver, how far, and for what charge. Do not offer it if you cannot do it well.
Payments
Choose which payment options you will accept and be clear about them. Decide how you will record cash payments and reconcile them at the end of the day.
Your team
Decide who watches the order list during opening hours and what they do if an order cannot be fulfilled. Practise with a few test orders before guests start using it.
Telling guests
Share your ordering link on your QR codes, social media, website and listings. Start with your regular guests, then expand once the process is smooth.
