Restaurant software can solve real problems or add new ones. The best way to choose is to be clear about your problem first, then ask the questions below.
Start with the problem
Write one sentence: “I want to ___.” For example, “update my menu without reprinting”, “hear from more guests” or “take orders directly”. A tool that does that one thing well is better than one that does everything adequately.
Questions to ask
- Fit: Does it solve my specific problem, and can I use only the part I need?
- Setup: How long will it take, and who does the work?
- Control: Can I update things myself, or do I need to ask the vendor every time?
- Guest experience: Does a guest need to download an app or create an account?
- Cost: What is the full cost, including any fees, and what happens if I stop?
- Support: Who do I contact when something is wrong during service?
- Your data: Who owns my menu, my feedback and my customer information?
Try it before you commit
Ask for a demo with your own restaurant’s details. Test it on your phone, the way a guest would. Test the owner side the way your team would, on a busy day.
Watch for overpromising
Be cautious about any tool that guarantees more sales, more reviews or higher rankings. These depend on many things outside software.
Start small
A smaller rollout shows you how the tool behaves in your restaurant. You can add more later. This is why repUP is built as three separate products: Reviews, Menus and Orders.
